  • Credit Card Rate

After years of being a loyal paying customer of Advanta & putting my trust in them to be there when I needed them the only reward I received was an interest rate of 34.99% & not being able to use my small business card to improve my business. It was frozen several yrs ago form Advanta's end due to their problems. My payments have been paid on time for years & in excess. After several attempts to resolve the issue over the phone I keep getting the same excuse that comes down to the fact that I am helping to pay for Advanta's bad judgement & business tactic's... • 34.99% interest rate

To those of us who own a small business in this economy it has been a bitter sweet American dream. Advanta Credit Cards has not been a good partner since its sky rocketing interest rate shot up. The opportunity to use the credit card to our advantage was taken away when they froze their customer accounts. All we can do is struggle to pay their high rate interest because there is no one who cares about the people who are trying to keep up with their black mail payments. I have tried to talk to them & it is useless. I have made the payments on time & in excess of the amount due for... More...

  • Rate Increase

I had to leave town due to my father-in-laws illness, and missed a payment because my wife and I were so involved with the situation. As it turned out, my father-in-law passed away after a 10 days in hospice care. I returned home the day after the funeral and got a message on my answering machine about the miss payment. When I contacted Advanta, they informed me the raised my interest rate from 7.99% to 29.99%, even though I never missed a payment in the three years I had the account. The only way for them to lower the interest rate was for me to pay $2178.00. No matter who I talked to,... More...

  • Loan Sharks could learn from Advanta

I received a small business credit card in April 2008 at 7.99%. The first thing I noticed that disturbed me is that the due dates changed every month. Unless I was vigilant, this would result in late payments - a major annoyance since I set up auto-pay online to pay on the same date every month. This is a sneaky technique disreputable companies use to skirt the law by setting up your payments based on 30 days - most people don't notice, and then the company gives you a "gotcha" late fee of $39. If this takes you over your credit limit, then guess what? Another $39 fee so... More...

  • Advanta Bank Credit Card Greed

Just when you thought Bernard Madoff was the biggest crook in the financial industry, watch out for these guys. Advanta teaser credit card rates WILL end up at 2-3 times the national average credit card rate!!! These people's GREED is amazing. Advanta teaser credit card rates end up at 2-3 times the national average credit card rate!!! Just have a bad month or 2 and late once (in other words just have a short term job or health problem) and without notice ADVANTA will pop the rate they charge you on your credit card balance to over 35%! …, How’s that for fair lending... • Outrageous

My office and myself have been in email contact with Advanta about the outrageous rate increase in our company credit card. I have written by mail the V.P. Brenden in Salt Lake City. No response to date. No phone call and in his first letter he stated he wasnt able to contact me at a phone number I have had for 18 yrs. We have had our business card for approximately 10 years. We managed to always pay on time, with more than the minimum due. Our rates have gone from 7.99 per cent to 27.99 percent. One payment was made one day late due to a log on problem my wife encountered. You also... More...

This bank is a disgrace. I made an $1100 payment that my bank proved was deposited by Advanta Bank the day after I made the payment. Neverythess, they called everyday for two weeks stating that I had not paid the bill, with additional threats the would report me to the collection agency. I wrote two letters to the vice present of collections that were never answered. When I telephone Advanta, no such person existed. Increasing my interest rate to ridiculous levels, along with addition changes was the work of loan sharks. It is disgraceful that a bank like this can continue. We... More...

  • Advanta Credit card ripoff

I have good credit and because my payment was late by one day, Advanta rasied my rate to 37%, an unheard of number which I find crimial. My understanding is they are establihed in Utah where there is no law governing credit card companys and the precentage they charge. Considering todays credit problems at an all time high, most fiancial institution are realizing that working with the consumer is good for both parties. Advanta is taking full advantage of their Utah location and I beleive this was always in their business plan. They should be sued and I beleive they will be. What goes around... More...

  • Raised APR

Went from 9.99% to 27.18%. No real reason. I have good credit (over 800) but Advanta decided that it was likely I would default - even tho I've never missed a payment and have been a customer for over 5 years. I feel taken advantage of but then, thats your company name "Advanta(ge)and from what I'm reading - you're doing all the time and it is wrong!!!!! You're taking advantage of a week economy and of people who are sticking it out. More...

  • Shocked Today

I opened my small business Advanta statement today and was shocked. My finance charge when from 9.99% to 27.18%. After reading all the complaints today, I'm lucky it wasn't worse. I called twice and was given the same memorized answer. They reviewed my account, thought I was likely to default, even tho I'd never missed a payment, nor were they telling me my credit was bad (it's over 800) but this is the best rate they have and will not lower the rate. Sorry, Merry Christmas! They are awful!!!!! More...

  • interest rate hike

Having delt with banks & "teaser" rates before... I made VERY certain I would not fall into this trap (but was trapped anyway). I know the "due" date varies AND paying a day EARLY is credited to the previous month (which makes one late in the current month). Upon asking WHEN the payment was due, (as I am frequently away from US mail and use a "bill-pay" service) I recived an OK for "30 day" billing. After about a year, it seems I was late by 3 days (how???). A late-charge was assesd and interest was raised by about 25%. Of course.. this made... More...

  • Adavanta Bank

I had a small business Mastercard with this bank. My card had been at 12% for a few years with around a $5000 balance. Paying it off slowly. Never late. A couple of months ago the finance charge was huge. I noticed my APR was now 32% and most of my balance was at 37.18% APR (cash advance rate from a balance transfer). I called to ask what was going on and they said they upped it (and I quote) "For No Reason". Then when I pressed I was told, "Read your terms & agreement, we can do this if we feel it's appropriate". To date, this is the worst credit... More...

  • Advanta Interest Rate Ripoff

I have had my Advanta card for about 10 years. Never missed a payment, excellent FICO, excellent credit. Went to make my end of August payment and found they jacked mhy interest rate from 10.05% to 30.05%. Claimed they sent an opt out letter. Never received it! Payment went up by 3 times and interest up by 5 times! Filed a complaint with the BBB and closed my account. Fortunately got back the excess interest. I am now working with an attorney, Alan Finkel, in Commack, NY to try and file a class action lawsuit against Advanta. I have seen over 200 victims of this same thing. 2 lawsuits have... More...

Wow I did not realize how bad they were until I had the same experience I am reading from everyone here. We were never late and rate went from 13.8% to 34.8% with no notice. I quot paying and now they are threatning law suit. Anyone else getting threatned with this after 90 days delinquent?

I don't know how to file a law suit, but sure feel like it. My interest was hiked behind my back to 36%. My payments are set on automatic, and I always include extra to pay down the principal. The only time I was "late" was when in December my payment due was larger than that preset amount.
Upon investigation, I was told that I had been told in August that the interest would be hiked, that this affected all customers. I never received such a letter, and what they're doing is completely illegal.
Anybody knows a lawyer hungry for a class action law suit?

Advanta has a history of using deceptive and misleading business practices. Losing a class action lawsuit in the late 90's did not seem to deter them.
There is no way you can expect any fair or good-faith dealings with this bank. It is the most contemptible bank I have ever dealt with and should be shut down & it's officers jailed.
